Basket of Jewels

Put a bunch of vegetables in a steamer, add a sauce and Voilà - Dinner!

Options for Basket

  • Carrots
  • Any potato
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Pearled onions
  • Green beans
  • Collard greens
  • Chard
  • Spinach
  • Basil
  • Parsley
  • Peas
  • Rutabaga
  • Yams
  • Squash

Options for Toppings

  • Soy sauce
  • Lemon Juice
  • Vinegar
  • Leftover soup
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Vegetables, herbs and or spices blended with water or broth in a blender
  • Cheesy Sauce
  • Nutritional yeast
  • Gravy
  • Cashews
  • Sesame seeds




Put hard vegetables in a vegetable steamer basket, or the top of a double boiler, (adding a couple of inches of water in the bottom pot).  
Add the hardest veggies first (potatoes, carrots, etc.)
Steam for 10 minutes.  Put in the rest and steam until the just soft and greens are bright, (5 minutes or so).  Serve with any optional topping, if desired.
